The Japan Times reports that Japan’s Go To Travel domestic tourism subsidy program may resume in February, with the government requiring participants to show proof of vaccination or a negative virus test result when they check-in. The proposed campaign mirrors the previous one, which covered 50% of travel costs up to ¥20,000 per person per night, but which was suspended in December 2020 due to a rise in infections. However, the government may reduce the per night subsidy cap to ¥13,000, and stop after the Golden Week holidays in May in favor of prefectural governments’ own localized tourism campaigns.
