Outlook Traveller reports that the Indian domestic aviation market is almost at two-thirds of its pre-COVID level, according to Pradeep Singh Kharola, India’s Civil Aviation Secretary. Speaking on a webinar for the domestic tourism industry, the secretary did not specify whether the 65% represented miles flown, volume by seats sold, or revenue, but added that he expects the number to reach 80% or 90% in the next few months. Kharola asked the tourism industry to promote the use of domestic airlines to boost India’s tourism economy, and asked other countries to consider giving visas to citizens of India – despite having 436,000 active COVID-19 cases.
