What is multi occupancy?
Multi occupancy is a function that allows room rates to be set based on the actual occupancy of the room, per person. This means that if the full occupancy for a room is 2 people, a single person can book the same room at a lower price. This function can be set up in YCS >> Calendar.
How to set up multi occupancy rates
- YCS >> Rates & Availability >> Calendar
- Select the Room Type and Rate Plan that you want to edit
- Select the date(s) for which you want to apply the multi occupancy rate
- Within the information window (shown on the right-hand side of the calendar), click the Advanced tab
- Click Edit Price Based on Occupancy
- Complete setting up your multi occupancy rate by defining the discount based on either a percentage or amount. Details for each option are provided below.
By percentage:
The multi occupancy rate discount uses the Full Occupancy Rate (Sell In) as the base price. If you decide to offer a discount calculated by a percentage, the discount will increase for each descending occupancy level.
Example:
If a room has a maximum occupancy of 4 with a Full Occupancy Rate of 200 USD and the discount per unit of unused occupancy is 10%, then the per occupancy rate would be as follows:
4 People: 200 USD3 People: 200 USD – 20 USD (10%) = 180 USD
2 People: 200 USD – 40 USD (10% X 2) = 160 USD1 Person: 200 USD – 60 USD (10% X 3 ) = 140 USD
After clicking Edit Price Based on Occupancy:
- Set the Full Occupancy Rate (Sell In)
- In the Discount per unit of unused occupancy row, ensure that the % button is highlighted blue
- Set the Discount per unit of unused occupancy by your preferred percentage
- The rate per person will then be filled in automatically
- Click Save Rates
By amount:
The multi occupancy rate discount uses the Full Occupancy Rate (Sell In) as the base price. If you decide to offer a discount calculated by a set amount, the discount will increase for each descending occupancy level.
Example:
If a room has a maximum occupancy of 4 with a Full Occupancy Rate of 100 USD and the discount per unit of unused occupancy is 10 USD, then the per occupancy rate would be as follows:
3 People: 100 USD
2 People: 100 – 10 = 90 USD
1 Person: 100 – (10 x 2) = 80 USD
- Set the Full Occupancy Rate (Sell In)
- In the Discount per unit of unused occupancy row, ensure that the Currency button is highlighted blue
- Set the Discount per unit of unused occupancy by your preferred amount
- The rate per person will then be filled in automatically
- Click Save Rates
Can I set per person room rates?
Yes, you can set specific per person room rates in the portion of the pop-up that is automatically filled in by editing the rates directly. Note that the rate for any occupancy level can’t be left blank and can’t be negative. By editing the occupancy level rate directly, it is possible to set a specific occupancy level at a discount percentage/amount higher or lower than the preceding or following occupancy level.
- Set the Full Occupancy Rate (Sell In)
- In the Discount per unit of unused occupancy row, ensure that the button for your preferred discount method is highlighted blue
- Leave the text field in the Discount per unit of unused occupancy row blank
- In the Occupancy chart below, adjust the rate for each occupancy level directly
- Click Save Rates
