PhocusWire reports that Chinese president Xi Jinping wants the rest of the world to collaborate on a global standard for COVID tracking as a step to normalize international travel.
Speaking at the G20 Leaders’ Summit which was held remotely on Saturday, he said “China has proposed a global mechanism on the mutual recognition of health certificates based on nucleic acid test results in the form of internationally accepted QR codes. We hope more countries will join this mechanism.” China has managed to mostly eliminate COVID-19 from its population despite being the source of the outbreak, by using a screening system that runs on Alipay and WeChat, which almost all Chinese mainlanders use to make payments. The system issues a colored QR code that dictates a citizen’s freedom to move around and travel.
