The Robb Report cites United Airlines intentions to purchase 15 faster-than-sound jets from Boom Supersonic, in a move to restart high-speed air travel – the first since the discontinuation of the Concorde. The “Overture” will seat between 65 and 88 passengers, cut normal flight time in half, and reach a top speed of Mach 1.7, or 1,304 mph. Boom claims a flight from New York to London would take just 3.5 hours and Los Angeles to Sydney would take eight. Additionally, the plane is designed to be fuel efficient with goals of being net-carbon neutral. The first actual commercial flight is not scheduled until 2029.
