NYT reports that much like how public security changed permanently in the aftermath of 9/11, the design of travel infrastructure is changing from COVID-19. Fundamentally the idea of gathering people together in hotel common spaces is being replaced by design and programming that intends to keep them apart, even as they stay at the same hotel. Existing no-contact features like keyless check-in and virtual assistance via mobile app are getting accelerated roll-outs at boutique USA hotels, along with enhanced digital services like in-room dining delivery and even robot servers.
