Travel optimism is back for Indian’s in 2022, after months of start-stop travel restrictions Indians are keen to pack their bags and take off, according to digital travel platform Agoda’s “India-genous Travel” Survey

Indonesians are prioritizing experiences, such as cooking workshops and heritage tours, as part of their hotel packages, and they are most likely among the region to cite it as a must-have.

Vietnamese are optimistic for tourism to take off again according to Agoda’s Return to Travel/Welcome Back to Travel survey released today with 60% of the public anticipating restriction-free domestic travel within the next six months.

After enduring the world’s longest lockdown patiently, Filipinos are optimistic to get back to traveling again according to Agoda’s recent travel sentiment survey, with nearly half of the public citing they will dust off their suitcases and travel domestically within four months of restrictions lifting.

Digital travel platform Agoda looks into Thailand’s most booked destinations over the past two years, (year-end June 2020 compared to year-end June 2021), and while Agoda’s booking data still shows Bangkok (#1), Pattaya (#2), and Chiang Mai (#3) as the top three most booked domestic destinations in Thailand, the booking data also reveals a shift towards lesser known destinations, as domestic travel dominated travel agendas, and adventurous Thai’s looked for more off-the-beaten track domestic destinations.

In the past year, as domestic tourism dominated the travel agendas, Korean travelers got more adventurous, with more off-the-beaten track and nature focused travel destinations skipping into the top 50 destinations, according to global digital travel platform Agoda.com’s booking data. Samcheok, Danyang and Hongcheon showed the biggest jump in rankings and found their way into Top 50 domestic destinations (from June 2020 to May 2021) ranking #35, #33 and #49 respectively.

Experiences such as themed stays as part of hotel packages, and trips where the hotel is the destination itself, are part of the latest travel trends according to Agoda’s ‘Travel in 2021’ survey announced today to mark the launch of Agoda’s Special Offers travel deals. Short stays, frequent trips, and exploring new local destinations are also the top ways people cite they want to travel now.

Australians and New Zealanders reputation as keen travellers was reinforced as Agoda’s search data reveals an 850% increase in searches by Australians looking for accommodation in New Zealand, and 470% increase for New Zealanders searching for trips to Australia, following the announcement that the Trans-Tasman travel bubble will commence 19 April 2021. 

2021 is going to be a year focusing on loved ones and making a difference. As we usher in 2021, one in three people are most looking forward to spending more quality time with loved ones this year.

Private bathrooms seem to be the top on the list of majority of travellers, with the exception of KSA and Vietnam where In-house entertainment is of higher importance.

The most preferred type of destination for most countries is the Beach Destinations, followed by Nature. With the exception of the Taiwanese travellers where majority prefer Nature.
