Travel Daily Media reports starting October 1 tourists who have been fully vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or AstraZeneca – the three vaccines approved by the Japan government – will be allowed entry with the caveat of needing to “self-isolate” for 10 days. Currently a 14-day quarantine is required for all inbound arrivals regardless of vaccination status. Japan started giving its own citizens vaccine passports in July to facilitate their travel abroad. However, the government has so far refused to recognize its own vaccine passports upon return as adequate for reduced quarantine. The new rules will presumably accept Japanese vaccine passports as proof of vaccination.
