The Digital Services Act (DSA), is a regulation from the European Union/European Economic Area that aims to regulate online intermediaries and platforms such as marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms. Its main goal is to prevent illegal and harmful activities online and the spread of disinformation.

What is the Digital Services Act (DSA)?

The Digital Services Act (DSA) regulates online platforms with the aim of creating safe, transparent digital spaces for consumers. It requires us to collect and verify essential information about professional hosts with listings for customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) who are either browsing or making reservations on our website and apps.

Collecting your information

The DSA requires us to collect information about professional hosts and to make our best effort to verify that the information is reliable and complete. If you’re designated as a professional host, then you’ll be required to submit information. The information collected will vary depending on whether you’re an individual or a business entity. We will be creating a portal within YCS for you to provide this information.

To verify your information, we will utilize official online databases from the EU or an EU Member State or we will request the supporting documentation from you directly. The collection and verification of this information must be completed before your property is visible to EEA travelers.

Displaying your information

On your property page, EEA travelers will be able to see whether the property is managed by a private or professional host. If it’s managed by a professional host, then select information will be visible, including:

  • Trading Name
  • Trading Address
  • Trading Phone Number
  • Trading Email Address
  • Trade Register (if applicable)
  • Trade Registration ID/Number (if applicable)
